Wages, overtime, and commission combination
Hourly rate, overtime rule, wage + commission hybrid model, breaks
Wages and commission combination
Many salons use hourly + commission hybrid. Staff gets a guaranteed base wage (monthly or weekly hourly) and performance-tied commission.
Where to find it
- Wage config: Staff profile → Wages tab
- Pay-run: Team → Pay Runs (wage + commission together)
- Report: Reports → Team → Wages Summary / Wages Detail
Wage fields
On staff profile
- Hourly rate (base, e.g., 2,500 HUF / hour)
- Overtime rate (e.g., 3,750 HUF / hour = 1.5x)
- Standard hours per week (e.g., 40 hr/wk, beyond is overtime)
Hour calculation
Hours come from Bookinda Clock-in module:
- Staff Clock-in / Clock-out at start and end
- Schedule module's planned hours
- Bookinda auto-computes actual worked time
What's captured
- Regular hours (40 hr/wk or per schedule)
- Overtime hours (beyond regular)
- Paid breaks (paid pauses per schedule)
- Unpaid breaks (unpaid, deducted)
Overtime
Per Hungarian labor law:
- Beyond 40 hr/wk = overtime
- Overtime premium (% of base, configurable)
Bookinda auto-separates regular vs overtime hours and uses the right rate.
Wage + Commission formula
Staff's weekly income: (Regular hours × hourly rate) + (Overtime hours × overtime rate) + Approved commission + Tips
E.g.:
- 40 hr × 2,500 = 100,000 HUF
- 5 overtime × 3,750 = 18,750 HUF
- Commission: 35,000 HUF
- Tips: 12,000 HUF
- Total: 165,750 HUF
Wages Summary report
Reports → Team → Wages Summary:
- Staff, Hours Worked, Paid Breaks, Unpaid Breaks, Regular Hours, Overtime Hours, Total Paid Hours, Regular Rate, Overtime Rate, Total Wages
Pay-run base before adding commission.
When to use it
Scenario 1, base wage + commission for new staff New stylist on probation. 3,500 HUF/hr base + 15% commission. Stable + motivating start.
Scenario 2, commission-only (1099 / self-employed) Senior stylist runs own business. Wage 0, commission 50%. High autonomy.
Scenario 3, hourly only (receptionist) Receptionist doesn't bring direct revenue. Hourly only, no commission. (Or small flat commission for "promoter role.")
Scenario 4, overtime dispute Staff says they did overtime. Wages Detail → daily breakdown → check hours. If true, paid at overtime rate.
Scenario 5, hybrid: daily guaranteed + commission 4 guaranteed hours daily (e.g., 10,000 HUF / day) + 25% commission on top. Stable base + motivating cap.
Tips
- Per Hungarian labor law, overtime premium is 50% (1.5x), use as base.
- Schedule + Clock-in modules are the wage calculation base, inaccurate = wage inaccurate.
- Paid vs unpaid breaks set on staff config: e.g., 30 min / day paid lunch.
- 100% commission model is rare and risky: empty week = 0 income, also legally problematic.
- Wage + commission pay-run is one payout, don't split into two flows.
- Wages Detail is daily-level, dispute on a specific day = quick lookup.
